In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity and gratitude, actor and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta has donated ₹1 crore to the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) under the Indian Army’s South Western Command. Her generous contribution comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, a swift and powerful military response launched by India following the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 innocent tourists lost their lives.
The terror attack, allegedly orchestrated by Pakistan-backed militants, deeply impacted the nation. In response, India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists from outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. India’s military campaign also struck radar systems, communication hubs, and airfields across 11 enemy airbases, significantly impairing retaliatory capabilities.
Amid this intense backdrop, Preity Zinta’s presence at the South Western Command’s auditorium served as a moment of compassion and tribute. Sharing glimpses of her visit on Instagram, she posted a video from the event where she addressed the families of soldiers. In her speech, she honored both the courage of the armed forces and the quiet strength of their families. “Our Indian Army is not only valiant but incredibly brave. But even braver are the families who stand behind them. This is a small token of respect from my side,” she said.
In her emotional caption, Preity described her feelings as she passed rows of posters showcasing the bravery of Indian soldiers—some of whom had laid down their lives, while others returned scarred from battle. She wrote, “These men were not just soldiers—they were sons, fathers, brothers, and husbands who gave their today for our tomorrow.”
She also spoke about her meeting with the Veer Naris—wives of fallen soldiers—and their children. “What struck me most was the strength in that room. There were no tears, no regrets—only pride, resilience, and a powerful silence filled with stories of sacrifice. I was deeply humbled to share the stage with these inspiring families.”
Preity Zinta’s donation stands as a reminder of the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made not just by soldiers but also by their families. Her act of giving brings attention to the vital role organizations like AWWA play in supporting army families during their toughest times.
